The Klamath Falls Rose Garden sits within Kuirau Park, defined by a heavy wooden pergola covered in climbing roses and a low stone wall that keeps the steam from the nearby geothermal vents at bay. It arrived as a gift from the sister city of Klamath Falls, Oregon, in nineteen eighty-four. The local soil, rich with volcanic minerals, pushes the roses to grow with unusual speed and color, creating a patch of intense floral scent that cuts right through the persistent, sulfurous smell of Rotorua.
