Scope Cafe Rotorua

Scope Cafe sits on the corner of Arawa and Tutanekai Streets, marked by its distinctive curved glass frontage and the heavy basalt stonework forming the base of the building. This structure was designed in nineteen thirty-nine as a public bathhouse entrance and changing facility, serving visitors who came to soak in the geothermal mineral pools of the Government Gardens. It remains the most intact example of Spanish Mission style architecture in Rotorua, retaining the original terracotta roof tiles and decorative plaster moldings.
