Pig & Whistle, Historic Pub

The Pig and Whistle Pub occupies the old Rotorua police station, a sturdy brick building constructed in nineteen forty. When the police moved to modern headquarters, the building sat empty until nineteen eighty-nine. That year, a local team converted the cells and offices into a tavern. The original heavy timber doors and high ceilings remain, giving the interior a weight you do not find in newer bars. A photograph of the station’s first sergeant still hangs near the main entrance.
