Archbishop's Palace in Wroclaw

The Archbishop's Palace in Wroclaw sits behind a long, mustard-yellow wall, distinguished by a heavy baroque gate topped with the stone carvings of a cardinal’s hat. This building houses the seat of the archdiocese, but its layout stems from a seventeenth-century residence built for bishops who governed with the authority of princes. In nineteen ninety-seven, the palace became a refuge for city archives and historical records when the Oder River flooded, threatening to erase centuries of local administrative history in a single night.
