The Evangelical Church of Divine Providence is defined by its massive, copper-clad dome that dominates the skyline of the Kazimierz district. Built in the mid-eighteenth century, the structure follows a central Greek cross plan, a layout chosen by the Prussian King Frederick the Great to accommodate a growing Lutheran congregation in a city historically dominated by Catholicism. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans, who later designed the Brandenburg Gate, relied on thick brick walls to support the heavy dome, creating an interior space centered entirely on the pulpit.
