Plac Nowy Targ features a vast, open expanse of gray stone pavement punctured by a single, glowing, glass-encased fountain that pulses with light at night. It served as the primary marketplace for medieval Wrocław, where merchants sold everything from salt to livestock for centuries. During the Second World War, aerial bombardments reduced the surrounding merchant houses to rubble. City planners cleared the ruins and replaced the old density with uniform residential blocks, leaving behind this wide, stark square in the city center.
