Two tall, narrow townhouses, Hansel and Gretel, stand connected by a stone archway at the corner of the market square. These buildings mark the ancient entrance to the churchyard of Saint Elizabeth, serving as a boundary between the bustling city trade and the quiet holy ground. In the nineteen sixties, artist Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz took up residence in the Hansel house. He spent years etching his own life onto the very walls, claiming the small stone tower as his private kingdom.
