Pawiak Prison Museum

The Pawiak Prison stands as a three-story brick structure framed by a surviving section of the original prison wall and a towering elm tree. During the German occupation of Warsaw, it served as the Gestapo's primary site for detention and interrogation. Roughly one hundred thousand people passed through these cells, and thousands were executed in the nearby ruins of the Ghetto. In August nineteen forty-four, the German guards burned the building, leaving behind only the scorched outer walls you see today.
