Warsaw Uprising Monument

The Warsaw Uprising Monument features a cluster of bronze figures erupting from a concrete mound, as if they are surging out of the rubble itself. Dedicated in nineteen eighty-nine, it commemorates the sixty-three days of fighting in nineteen forty-four when the Polish Home Army resisted German occupation. Sculptor Wincenty Kucma designed the monument to show insurgents scrambling through a crumbling tenement wall. The heavy bronze forms capture the frantic motion of soldiers and civilians caught in the final days of the struggle.
