Warsaw Ghetto Wall

The small fragment of brick wall on Sienna Street consists of original, darkened masonry, partially framed by modern apartment blocks. It is one of the few surviving sections of the wall that once enclosed the Warsaw Ghetto, which the German occupying forces sealed in November nineteen forty. Inside those barriers, more than four hundred thousand Jews were confined in crowded, starving conditions before mass deportations to the Treblinka extermination camp began in the summer of nineteen forty-two.
