Umschlagplatz Monument

The Umschlagplatz monument marks the site where German forces gathered Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto before deporting them to the Treblinka extermination camp. It stands as an open stone structure, shaped like a three-sided enclosure that resembles a freight car. Walls inside list four hundred common Jewish first names, representing the individuals who passed through this railway yard in nineteen forty-two. A single block of white stone rests at the back, bearing an inscription in three languages honoring those who perished.
