Miła 18 Memorial

A granite mound rising from the grass marks the bunker at Mila eighteen. This was the headquarters for the Jewish Combat Organization during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in nineteen forty-three. Mordechaj Anielewicz and his fellow fighters took refuge in this underground space when the German forces launched their final assault on the ghetto. On May eighth, after the bunker was surrounded and trapped by poison gas, Anielewicz and dozens of his comrades chose to end their lives rather than surrender to capture.
