Archcathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist

The Archcathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist sits behind a dark, jagged brick facade that looks centuries older than it is. While the building traces its origins to the fourteenth century, the structure standing today is a post-war recreation. During the Warsaw Uprising in nineteen forty-four, German forces used a remote-controlled tank packed with explosives to blow a hole in the main nave. The interior collapsed, and nearly the entire shell of the church lay in ruins.
