Plac Zamkowy

Plac Zamkowy is defined by the eighty-five-foot tall Corinthian column topped with the bronze figure of King Sigismund the Third Vasa. He holds a cross in one hand and a sword in the other, turned toward the Vistula River. The square sits at the mouth of the Royal Route, serving as the threshold to the reconstructed Old Town. In nineteen forty-four, the square held nothing but rubble piles, leaving the column as one of the few structures left standing in this district.
