Presidential Palace in Warsaw

The Presidential Palace wears a long, elegant row of Corinthian columns along its Krakowskie Przedmiescie facade. This building began as a seventeenth-century residence for the aristocratic Koniecpolski family and evolved through various owners before becoming the seat of the Polish presidency. In nineteen fifty-five, diplomats gathered in the main hall to sign the Warsaw Pact. Years later, it served as the site for the Round Table talks, where the communist government and the Solidarity trade union negotiated the peaceful transition to democratic rule.
