Warsaw Barbican

The Warsaw Barbican stands out with its distinct semi-circular brick walls and three arched towers, separating the Old Town from the New Town. Completed in fifteen forty-eight, it served as a defensive gateway to the city. During the Second World War, retreating German forces demolished the structure, leaving it in ruins. Polish architects rebuilt the Barbican from the ground up in the nineteen fifties, using salvaged bricks from demolished buildings in Wroclaw and Legnica to recreate its sixteenth century appearance.
