Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan

religious

The sweeping, multi-tiered roofs of Wat Phra Singh are covered in gold-leaf stencil work and intricate wood carvings that distinguish this temple from its neighbors in Chiang Mai. Established in thirteen forty-five, the complex grew around the Phra Singh Buddha statue, a relic said to have been smuggled from Sri Lanka. According to local legend, the statue arrived here on a cart pulled by a white elephant that stopped specifically at this site, marking it as sacred ground for the city.
