The white, windowless brick wall of the ordination hall at Wat Prasat stands out for its extreme simplicity, lacking the elaborate gilded carvings common to other Chiang Mai temples. This structure sits on a foundation that dates back to the founding of the city in the late thirteenth century. During a renovation in the nineteen thirties, workers discovered a tunnel beneath the floor connecting the hall to the base of the main stupa, intended for monks to access secret chambers for meditation.
