The white chedi stands out against the brickwork of the main prayer hall, its smooth, lime-plastered surface showing faint traces of gold leaf. This temple marks the center of the old city of Chiang Mai, acting as the spiritual navel of the original town plan. In the middle of the nineteenth century, it lay abandoned and overgrown for decades. A local monk rediscovered the site, clearing the forest to find the ruins, and dedicated his life to restoring the temple to its original layout.
