Wat Buppharam

The most distinctive feature of Wat Buppharam is the massive, brightly colored Burmese-style archway that stands over its entrance, decorated with intricate glass mosaics and sculpted dragons. Built in fifteen ninety-seven by King Kaeo Nawarat, the temple serves as a quiet refuge where Lanna and Burmese architectural traditions collide. During the Second World War, a Japanese soldier famously sought shelter inside the main prayer hall, where he claimed a spirit warned him to leave, prompting him to spare the temple from destruction.
