Power Station Park sits on a six-acre stretch of land that serves as the green, riverfront threshold to the massive coal-fired monument behind it. You are walking across ground that was once essential to the daily operation of the facility, providing the vital riverside access needed for the coal barges that fed the station’s enormous furnaces. Today, the park offers a public space to view the building, replacing the industrial grit of the mid-twentieth century with manicured lawns and deckchairs that look directly out onto the River Thames. The park functions as the front door to the entire redeveloped site, softening the imposing, brick-clad bulk of the power station.
