The Old Burial Ground of the Royal Hospital Chelsea serves as a quiet witness to over three centuries of military history. Consecrated in sixteen ninety-one, this site became the final resting place for roughly ten thousand Chelsea Pensioners and hospital staff before it reached capacity in eighteen fifty-four. While many of the original burials are unmarked, the grounds contain a variety of table tombs, headstones, and stone slabs that commemorate those who lived out their final years within the hospital walls.
