Saatchi Gallery

The Saatchi Gallery occupies a building with a history far removed from the world of contemporary art. It is housed in what was once the Royal Military Asylum, designed in eighteen hundred and one as a school for the children of soldiers who had died in service. The site later served as the Duke of York's Barracks, a military complex where, during the Second World War, authorities held high-profile trials for suspected German spies. Today, the austere, classical architecture of the former military headquarters provides a stark contrast to the experimental and often provocative works displayed inside its fifteen galleries.
