Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show occupies the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, a site chosen for its permanence after the event spent decades migrating across London. While it first settled here in nineteen thirteen, the show has roots reaching back to eighteen sixty-two when it began as the Great Spring Show in Kensington. The transition to this location proved so successful that it became the definitive home for the most prestigious event in the horticultural calendar. Even the threat of government taxation in nineteen nineteen failed to displace it, as the Royal Horticultural Society successfully argued for the event's significant educational value. Today, the site maintains a unique connection to the past, with three of the original plant nurseries that exhibited in nineteen thirteen still participating in the show over a century later.
