The chimney lift at Battersea Power Station takes you on a journey inside one of the world's most famous industrial landmarks. Engineers and architects had to overcome a major technical hurdle to build it, as the lift car had to rise through a gently tapering chimney shaft. To ensure the glass elevator could offer completely unobstructed views of the city, the design team moved all the mechanical propulsion systems underneath the floor of the cabin. This choice eliminated the need for traditional suspension cables that would have otherwise cluttered the passenger experience.
