Hyde Park Holocaust Memorial

The Hyde Park Holocaust Memorial occupies a quiet, secluded corner of the park known as The Dell. Unveiled in 1983, this was the first public memorial in Great Britain dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. Its design avoids traditional statues or figurative sculptures, instead opting for a garden arrangement of massive, rugged granite boulders set amidst a grove of silver birch trees. The white bark of the trees and the raw, unrefined stone were chosen to create a landscape that encourages quiet contemplation rather than grand ceremony.
