Tyburn Brook

Tyburn Brook began as a natural tributary of the River Thames, flowing south through what is now the posh terrain of Belgravia. It once provided the primary water source for the ancient settlement of Thorney Island before the city of London expanded over it. Today, the stream continues its journey entirely underground, channeled into a brick sewer system constructed during the nineteenth century to manage the citys growing waste. While you walk above it, you are standing directly over a subterranean waterway that dictated the early landscape and drainage patterns of this district.
