Readymoney Drinking Fountain

The Readymoney Drinking Fountain is a striking Gothic structure crafted from ten tons of white Sicilian marble and four tons of pink and grey Aberdeen granite. It stands as a significant piece of Victorian-era philanthropy, funded by Sir Cowasjee Jehangir, a wealthy Parsee businessman from Bombay. He earned the nickname Ready Money for his immense business success and his habit of funding public works like hospitals and colleges. He commissioned this fountain in 1869 as a gesture of gratitude toward the British for the protection afforded to the Parsee community under their rule in India.
