The Brewery

You are approaching The Brewery on Chiswell Street, a site that was once the industrial heartbeat of this area. Founded in 1750 by Samuel Whitbread, this location functioned as a massive commercial brewery for over two centuries. Its scale was so impressive that it became a site for royal visits, hosting King George the Third and Queen Charlotte in 1787. Even today, you can see historical echoes of that era, such as the Smeaton Vaults named after John Smeaton, the famous engineer who helped stabilize the brewery's giant beer storage tanks when they first began leaking through their walls.
