Stadthaus

The Stadthaus on Murray Grove stands as a pioneer in modern architecture. Completed in two thousand nine, this nine-story residential building challenged the norms of urban construction by utilizing cross-laminated timber for its entire structural frame. While buildings of this height traditionally relied on concrete or steel, architects used solid timber panels for the load-bearing walls, floor slabs, and even the central lift and stair cores. This approach effectively turned the structure into a carbon store, sequestering over one hundred eighty tons of carbon dioxide within its walls for the lifetime of the building.
