Islington Green

Islington Green is not an ancient village green, but rather a surviving fragment of manorial wasteland. In past centuries, local farmers and tenants held rights to graze their livestock on this open land. As London expanded during the nineteenth century, most of this common area disappeared under new construction, leaving only this small triangular patch at the meeting point of Upper Street and Essex Road.
