Bonnington Square Pleasure Garden

Before this area became a garden, it was a bomb site cleared during the Blitz of the second world war. Local residents reclaimed the abandoned land in the nineteen eighties, transforming the rubble into a communal space inspired by the ornate pleasure gardens of the eighteenth century. They planted exotic species like banana trees and palms, which thrive here because the surrounding terrace houses create a unique microclimate that traps heat. This transformation turned a forgotten plot of land into a dense, semi tropical sanctuary maintained by the neighborhood.
