Gasworks

The massive wrought iron frame standing before you is Gasholder Number One, a towering relic of the Victorian industrial era. When it was first completed in the late eighteen seventies, it stood as the largest gasholder in the world. It was designed by the engineer Sir Corbet Woodall to store vast quantities of coal gas, which once powered the lamps and homes of South London.
