The building you see before you began as a small drapery shop founded in eighteen fifty-three. By the twentieth century, it had transformed into a premier Art Deco department store that served the wealthiest residents of Kensington. To cater to this elite clientele, the store commissioned architect Bernard George to design the seven-story structure that stands here today, which opened in nineteen thirty-three. The facade is adorned with intricate metalwork and reliefs titled Labour and Technology, marking it as a significant piece of interwar design.
