Kensington Square

Kensington Square holds the distinction of being the oldest garden square in the entire neighborhood of Kensington. Its origins date back to sixteen eighty-five when a woodcarver named Thomas Young acquired the land. He envisioned an enclave of substantial homes for people of high status, complete with front courtyards and rear gardens. While other famous London squares of the era were being built closer to the city center, this square established a residential retreat in what was then the countryside.
