Opera Holland Park

Opera Holland Park rises each summer from a site shaped by total destruction. The theatre sits directly in front of the remains of Holland House, a magnificent Jacobean mansion that was largely obliterated by German incendiary bombs during the London Blitz in 1940. Only the east wing and parts of the south façade survived, leaving a haunting, skeletal backdrop of history that now serves as the permanent, natural scenery for every performance. You are walking toward a space where the ruins of the past frame the live art of the present.
