Round Pond

The Round Pond in Kensington Gardens is a misnomer, as it is actually a rectangle with rounded corners rather than a circle. Commissioned by King George the Second in seventeen-thirty, it was designed by royal gardener Charles Bridgeman to serve as a centerpiece for the palace grounds. Bridgeman complemented the basin by planting avenues of trees that radiate outward like spokes on a wheel, creating intentional, framed vistas of the palace from various points in the landscape.
