The Mangrove

The Mangrove restaurant opened at eight All Saints Road in nineteen sixty-eight, founded by a Trinidadian immigrant named Frank Crichlow. While it served Caribbean food, it functioned primarily as a vital community hub for Black intellectuals, artists, and activists in Notting Hill. Its atmosphere attracted a diverse clientele, including cultural figures like Jimi Hendrix, Nina Simone, and Bob Marley. The restaurant offered a rare space of belonging during a period of intense racial tension in Britain.
