The Tabernacle

The Tabernacle on Powis Square stands as a striking example of late nineteenth century Romanesque architecture. When the current red brick and terracotta building was completed in eighteen eighty-eight, locals immediately dubbed it the Taj Mahal of North Kensington. Its two towers and sweeping curved facade represented a significant architectural statement for an evangelical prayer hall of that era. Designed by architects Habershon and Fawckner, the structure was built to hold up to one thousand congregants during its years as a place of worship.
