7 July Memorial

The 7 July Memorial in Hyde Park consists of fifty-two stainless steel pillars, each standing three and a half meters high. These pillars are grouped into four clusters, with each cluster representing one of the four sites where the bombs detonated on that day. Every pillar was individually sand-cast in a foundry in Sheffield, which gives each one a unique, rough-textured surface finish. This technique ensures that although the columns appear identical from a distance, they are distinct upon closer inspection. The designers purposefully chose to leave the pillars anonymous, with each one inscribed only with the date, time, and location of the attack rather than the name of a victim. This choice reflects the randomness of the event and the fact that the tragedy could have affected anyone. A separate stainless steel plaque nearby lists the names of the fifty-two people who lost their lives, providing a space for personal remembrance.
