Women's Sunday

You are standing near the site of a pivotal moment in the fight for women's suffrage. On June 21, 1908, the area around Paddington Station served as a vital staging ground for Women's Sunday, a massive demonstration organized by the Women's Social and Political Union. Thousands of suffragettes arrived at this very station on specially chartered trains from Wales, the Midlands, and the West of England. From here, they assembled into one of seven major, highly disciplined processions that marched through the streets of London, all converging on Hyde Park for what was then the largest political demonstration in British history.
