Miss Ironside's School

Miss Ironside's School was a legendary day school located at two Elvaston Place in Kensington. Founded in 1920 by Irene Ironside, it became known for its remarkably unconventional and liberal approach to education. The school rejected rigid discipline, and students addressed their teachers only by their first names. These teachers were a collection of eccentric figures and refugee scholars, some of whom had direct connections to the great musical traditions of the nineteenth century.
