Ten Bells

The Ten Bells stands as a cornerstone of Spitalfields history, occupying its current spot on the corner of Commercial Street and Fournier Street since eighteen fifty-one. Its name serves as a direct reference to the peal of ten bells housed in the steeple of the neighboring Christ Church, a towering landmark designed by the architect Nicholas Hawksmoor. Before the church installed those specific ten bells in seventeen eighty-eight, the pub was known as the Eight Bells, and it has reliably tracked the changing chime count of its neighbor for over two centuries.
