Nelson Square

Nelson Square was laid out between eighteen hundred and seven and eighteen hundred and fourteen, shortly after the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. While grander monuments to the naval hero would eventually define central London, this square served as an early residential tribute to his national stature. The land was once part of the Manor of Old Paris Garden, a site that had transitioned over centuries from a medieval hide of land for monks and a sanctuary for outlaws into a center for the textile industry.
