The Abbot's Kitchen is an octagonal stone structure topped by a high, lantern-like roof with slender chimneys. It was the heart of the great kitchen complex for Glastonbury Abbey, built in the fourteenth century to feed the monastic community and their many guests. While the rest of the monastery fell into ruin during the dissolution of the monasteries, this building survived because it was sturdy and useful. It remains one of the best preserved medieval kitchens in all of Europe.
