Deadman's Walk

Deadman's Walk is a narrow, gravel path running between the high stone walls of Merton College and the quiet expanse of Christ Church Meadow. It takes its name from the route monks used to carry bodies from the college to the churchyard for burial. Centuries of students have paced these stones, whispering about the ghost of a royalist officer who allegedly haunts the wall, forever watching for an enemy attack that never came during the English Civil War.
