Memory Garden

other

The Memory Garden features a high, thick adobe wall topped with clay tiles that hides the space from the bustle of the street. Inside this enclosure, the path winds around the remains of the old Custom House plaza, which once served as the primary gateway for trade in Mexican California. In nineteen twenty-seven, the Monterey History and Art Association cleared out a junkyard here to recreate the atmosphere of the eighteen forties. A single Monterey cypress tree anchors the center of the garden.
