Dogpatch Ropewalk

You are standing near a site that once anchored San Francisco’s maritime industry. For over a century, beginning in 1856, this area was home to the Tubbs Cordage Company. The facility was famous for its massive ropewalk, a structure over one thousand feet long where workers walked back and forth to twist fiber strands into heavy cables for sailing ships. This was the first commercial rope manufacturing plant established west of New England.
