Foundry Square

Four glass buildings with rounded corners frame the open plaza of Foundry Square. This ground sits on the historical shoreline of Yerba Buena Cove, where massive industrial foundries produced heavy ironwork for the city’s early growth. In the nineteen seventies, the area held a bus terminal and a gritty parking lot. When developers cleared the site, they buried the old foundations under deep layers of concrete and steel. A single blackened chain hangs near the entrance, salvaged from those long-gone metalworks.
