Two hundred twenty-five Bush Street wears a jagged, copper-colored crown that slices into the skyline. This tower replaced the original home of the Standard Oil Company of California. When construction wrapped up in nineteen twenty-two, the building housed the headquarters for the oil giant, reflecting the wealth flowing from the San Joaquin Valley. Architects Willis Polk and Charles Gottschalk designed the structure with a heavy limestone base that mimics the classical style of the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Italy.
